I have had so many people ask me where I bought my dress for my maternity photo shoot, so I decided to share my secrets with you. :)

I have never done maternity photos before and honestly never wanted to!  With pregnancy number 4, that changed. I have felt really strongly that I need at least one beautiful picture of me pregnant. In the scope of a lifetime, a women’s child bearing years are so short. With my recent surgery (Learn more about that HERE) I can honestly say that I wasn’t sure if I would be able to get pregnant ever again. I wanted to capture the miraculous gift that bearing children is. I quoted this previously, but it has seriously become my mantra with this pregnancy.

“If I had my life to live over, instead of wishing away nine months of pregnancy, I’d have cherished every moment and realized that the wonderment growing inside me was a chance in life to assist God in a miracle.” -Erma Bombeck

I wanted maternity photos that were classic, elegant, and timeless. I wanted them to really capture the sanctity and beauty of becoming and being a mother. I didn’t want to spend a bunch of money— and maternity clothes can be soooo expensive!!! So my hunt for something to wear began. I quickly realized that this was going to be harder than I thought.

After a couple of hours at the mall and a few other stores, I started to get discouraged. I found things that could maybe work for something more casual, but never a full beautiful flowy dress that made me feel beautiful and graceful…

Then the heavens parted :) , and I realized I could create my own flowy maternity dress!

I decided to find three separate pieces that I loved and could piece together to make a dress.

What I did:

  1. Find a long skirt you love:  I found this XL skirt on the clearance rack at DownEast. It was perfect to fit over my baby bump and still be long enough to the ground that I didn’t have a problem. I also folded in the wasteband to cover it up. There are so many long skirts and maxi skirts out there nowadays, find one you love!

2. Find the perfect shirt to match: I found this pretty top with a little bit of lace. (On sale as well, score!) Find it HERE.

3. Use a beautiful belt of your choice: THIS beautiful studded belt was the perfect thing to cover waistband of my skirt and shirt combination.

There you have it! And the best thing is, it is so comfortable and something I can wear after baby comes too!
