@MarathonMommaLa (Laura)
This picture is from the first marathon that my husband and I ever ran together! We were both barely graduated from highschool! We have now run several together and we have four kids!
#RunninRomance
It started in middle school… we were neighbors and rode the same bus to school. To me, he was sort of the “nerdy neighbor boy” and to him, I was “the way cute girl that he always had a crush on” haha. We started to be good friends in high school and he talked me into running on the cross country team with him. He trained with me for my second marathon… and as runners do, we got to know each other very well through many miles and lots of laughs. I fell in love with him early one morning on a 15 mile run. He was on a bike that day just to keep me company. We were talking and having a good ‘ol time— when UH OH! I needed to go to the bathroom! Bad. The kind of bathroom that requires toilet paper.And being a fairly new runner, I didn’t know that the world was my bathroom ;). I didn’t know what to do! A little embarrassed, I slowed down, began to walk and said, “I really need to use a restroom.” Communicating the emphasis of my statement with my eyes.
That was all I had to say. Austin heroically road quickly off into the sunrise with a quest to find me a bathroom at 6am in the morning! The nearest small town was about two miles away. He rode into town, scanning the streets looking for a gas station, store, house, anything! Finally, he found a kind samaritan man out watering his plants and with a smile asked, “..Good morning sir, do you mind if my friend uses your bathroom?” And explained the situation a bit further.
Meanwhile, I was trying my best to walk/run, VERY uncomfortably, embarrassed, and hoping that Austin would come back! And then he appeared, riding in the sunrise, like a knight in shining armor. “Hop on!” He said, as he reached me and directed me to sit on the handlebars. He then biked me right to the front door of our good samaritan’s house.
In this moment, I loved him..and I knew I could trust him, and that he would do ANYTHING for me!

My husband Trevor and I have not always ran together, nor do we get to now as much as we want to with 3 little kiddos, we have to trade turns training. My husband does not love running but I have somehow convinced him to run 2 full marathons with me (and our 3rd one coming up in 3 weeks!) and a few half marathons and 5 and 10ks. We really enjoy hiking and golfing as a couple as well but we have started running more together and it’s been awesome!
I ran my first full marathon when our oldest was 1 year old and he was so supportive and was right there at the finish line with our daughter cheering me on!
He did the same thing with our next 2 babies and eventually ran his first full marathon in 2013 and I was there supporting him with our 2 month old. I have ran a marathon quickly after having a baby but I wasn’t ready that year, and he was so we were there supporting him. I was so proud of him!
Just last year in October of 2015, we ran our first race, the St. George marathon step for step together and crossed the finish line holding hands. It felt like a huge accomplishment for our marriage and our family. We will be married for 13 years next month and it felt like a celebration of making it through the marathon of life and marriage thus far. I love him so much and hope we have many more years of running races and enjoying life as a family closely together
We want to hear your best #RunninRomance stories!!! Whether you are a runner, or just tried to run with your lover once.
Can’t wait to hear these lovely, hilarious, and romantic stories!!!
