I have always been a morning person, ready to greet the day before the sun comes up— chipper, happy, and ready to go! But to be honest, all of this winter weather in my new found home of Salt Lake City is really testing me! My bed is way too warm and cozy and it is way too cold outside! But I have noticed that on days that I don’t start my morning purposefully, I miss out on my morning inspiration, early exercise, and scripture study —which leaves me less equipped to fight the battles of the day. I feel like the day runs me instead of me running the day. So I’m taking my own advice and recommitting to take hold of my mornings. Who’s with me?!
“It’s amazing how much more I get accomplished in a day when I retire early and arise early. The benefits of this self-discipline far exceed the effort required. When we win the first battle of the day against the mattress, we are far more likely to win more battles during the day. We are also more likely to be filled with life and energy.” {Randal Wright}
“Go to bed early and get up early. If you do, your body and mind will become rested and then in the quiet of those early morning hours, you will receive more flashes of inspiration and insight than at any other time of the day.” {Harold B. Lee}

I find myself getting lax in my morning routine when I am just not getting enough sleep. I think I was running on adrenaline for the first year of little man’s life because while I was sleep deprived, I wasn’t all that tired…not sure what happened there! Anymore, if I am getting to bed too late or had a super heavy dinner, those are the mornings that I need a crowbar to get me going
